The Pacific Ocean has always been a photographer’s top destination. By driving highway 1, arguably California's most scenic byway, it is easy to fall in love with the winding seaside beauty that changes from mile to mile. One most popular section is the route including Santa Cruz, Monterey, and Santa Luis Obispo. All of which invokes romantic notions about convertibles, seaside bungalows, leisurely roadside stops and the dipping of bare toes in icy waters.

“Break Rock” was captured close to the Santa Cruz area where huge swells of water collided with a fractured and torn landscape. Very little sand or beach dotted this roadside location, but the ocean energy was overwhelming that day.

This image embodies the noble, dynamic, and high energy that only slightly reveals the immense and powerful restlessness beyond - the Earth’s largest ocean, the mighty Pacific.
